Our consulting engagements begin with discussions with the company leadership on the business goals of the systems and applications. It is important that we understand what the expected results are as well as how, where, and when end users interact with the application. We also discuss any signs or symptoms that the application is not performing as planned such as end user complaints, incomplete transactions or form-fills, or a high percentage abandoned shopping carts. All of this data forms the foundation of our performance requirements documentation.
We then work with the IT team to get a deep understanding of the infrastructure and the application delivery chain. We study the network diagrams and perform a series of tests to recreate the issues end users are experiencing. With this information we can develop an action plan for ensuring maximizing application performance. This plan includes identifying where in the network to place aggregation and network tap technologies as well as recommendations on monitoring software to give you the visibility you need. We also define and formalize the processes and procedures that the IT team will have to execute on in order to keep the application performing as it should.
